Transportation Specialist
The Transportation Specialist is responsible for operating the detainee/prisoner transportation system and providing oversight and coordination of all trip activities in accordance with the policies, procedures and goals established by TransCor.
Job Duties:
- Provide and manage detainee safety, security and transport via ground in accordance with policy and procedures and applicable regulations and statutes.
- Responsible for detainee pickup from a sending agency, transporting and delivering detainee and detainee property to specified receiving agency.
- Completion of the proper paperwork and/or documentation on all transactions, i.e. trip activities, expenses and prisoner receipts.
- Conduct regular vehicle and equipment inspections and maintenance while en route.
- Comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) hours of service regulations. Maintain logbook reporting and completion of all required paperwork in accordance with policies, procedures and regulations.
- Consult with Operations Manager, Trip Management and other Operations Center personnel in assessing situations and making decisions.
- Maintain physical and mental fitness to endure demanding trip schedules while retaining alertness, as well as protecting team, detainees and the public in times of emergency.
- Establish relationships and communicate with individuals at agencies, maintaining order with detainees and minimizing the use of force.
- Assist with ongoing and required communications with Trip Management in the Operations Center.
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in prisoner transportation, security, law enforcement, corrections or military preferred.
- Possess a valid Class A or B driver’s license or permit with airbrake and passenger endorsements.
Additional Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years old, pass a fingerprint-based background check, credit check, motor vehicle records check, which must reflect a clean driving record for the past 18 months, Department of Transportation physical examination, pre-employment drug screen and Human Performance Evaluation.
Once employed, Transportation Specialists will participate in a random drug-screening program, be required to maintain a good driving record and participate in re-certification training.
